BELLFIELD UPDATE- JULY 2021
We are back! Bellfield is bustling again with classes and events taking place and we are taking all of the necessary Covid precautions to make the experience as safe and as enjoyable as possible.
EV (Electric Vehicle) charging point at Bellfield:
Action Porty is committed to tackling the climate emergency and to supporting our community to transition to net-zero. Bellfield already has solar panels and battery storage and now would like to provide EV charging at Bellfield – an area where very few people have driveways and there are no charging points.
If you would like to see community owned EV charging at Bellfield and also support this project, please sign here before the end July.
Meet Our Team:
Hear from some of our amazing staff & volunteers and find out why they want to be part of Bellfield. First up we have our all-round good egg, our helpful and dependable regular cleaner at Bellfield. You can imagine how crucial his job is these days. Get to know him a little better in our quick fire interview:
Tell us a bit about yourself.
My name is James Thomson I am a father first to my three beautiful girls. In my spare time I enjoy listening to music and gaming time with the family (and beer).
What's it like working at Bellfield?
I enjoy working at Bellfield as it is a very rewarding and relaxing environment for friendly volunteers and hall users.
What's your favourite part of Bellfield?
I like the style of the building but my favourite room is celebration Hall as it has the old organ and pipes on show even though they don't work they're still lovely to look at as you are using the hall.
If you had a superpower, what would it be?
My superpower would be Lightning speed!! So, I can get my work done quicker and get back to my hobbies (beer).... Lol.
New Administrator:
We are very pleased to announce that Gail Stark has joined Bellfield as our new administrator. Gail comes to us with a vast experience of senior administration positions. We extend a heartfelt welcome to her as she begins her journey with us.
Porty 2025:
Action Porty is planning a large scale, community-led conversation to help shape the future of Porty. Come along to our ‘Porty 2025' open meeting at Bellfield to find out how you can help make it a success.
‘Porty 2025’ open meeting is on Tuesday 24th August 6.30-8.30pm!
Given that we are (we hope) coming out of the pandemic, and given we’re facing multiplying crises, ‘Porty 2025’ is asking how we can draw on the resourcefulness of the people living here so that everyone is included in a caring community now and into the future?
We’re planning a ‘HEARTWALK PORTY’ (probably for the weekend of the 25/26th September - save the date): inviting local people, groups, organisations and venues to host discussions about the future they want to see.
Whether you’re keen on affordable housing, meaningful work and education, community-friendly transport, creative arts or sport, inclusive decision making, provision for youth or elders, mental health, green and growing spaces etc - YOU’RE INVITED to come and help shape how and where this patchwork of local blethers will happen. Please also fill in this very short survey to get us started.
Gifts by donation:
Your generosity keeps us going. As a charity, we rely on your donations (one off or regular) to enable us to support Bellfield and make a difference to the Community of Portobello. Don’t forget that, in addition to gifts by donation, you can support Bellfield by considering making a gift in your will. This is very easy and straightforward. You can find out more about ways to donate here.
Lastly you can also support us each time you shop on Amazon. Of course we recommend that you shop local first but if you are buying from Amazon, then please use AmazonSmile and Amazon will donate to Action Porty, at no cost to you.
Till the next update,
Yours Aye
