AGM News
Another year is over at Bellfield. Our 6th AGM which was held on 22nd June. The review of the last year painted a positive picture of the increasing levels of demand from the community. We plan to play an even greater role in the community in the future through active collaboration with other organisations. None of this would have been possible without our wonderful volunteers and supporters, so thank you to all. If you like the idea of getting involved, then talk to Ella Lees our volunteer co-ordinator who will be happy to explain options. Action Porty always welcomes new members to our Board.
The Friday Café
In recent weeks volunteers have launched the Friday Café which runs every Friday from 10-12:30 in the Bellfield Foyer. With pay what you feel home baking and a short, free taster session in arts, crafts and DIY it is a chance to connect with friendly faces and learn new skills in a relaxed space.
The café is open to all and is completely volunteer run, we caught up with some of the volunteers and customers last week to see what the buzz was all about. You can read about it here
We have a line-up of optional skills sharing sessions which run from 11am-12pm every week, the plan for the next few weeks is as follows:
9th September- Rewiring a plug
16th September- Designer Cards
23rd September- Quilling with Christine
30th September- Embroidery Stitches

Beach Wheelchairs Portobello Celebrated its 4th Birthday
We continue to support Beach Wheelchairs Portobello through the provision of equipment as well as promoting them.
Beach Wheelchairs Portobello was officially launched on Saturday the 25th of August 2018. They have provided beach wheelchairs in Portobello to hundreds of people since then and now have 6 wheelchairs in a variety of specifications.
Beach Wheelchair hires from September 1st
As of this Thursday they will be open for pre-booked hires only.

South London Jazz Orchestra Return Triumphant to Bellfield
We were delighted to host SLJO in Bellfield Celebration Hall for an Action Porty fundraiser on Saturday 20th July. Approximately 40 visiting musicians took to the stage and filled the Celebration Hall with a glorious selection of jazz tunes. There was dancing in the aisles and even a sousaphone in the pulpit!
This was a welcome return by SLJO who first played with us in Aug 2018, just after opening. They played again in 2019 but gigs were impossible the last two years. It was a joy to hear how good the sound was in the Celebration Hall side and how well sound was contained. We have a long way to go before the Celebration Hall is really fit for public events – with adequate toilet provision, smooth flowing through that building and suitable gathering space, all things the big capital project seeks to address - but it was wonderful to enjoy live music again. Can hardly wait till next year!
